Eamon Gilmore says there are no plans to arm rebels battling the Assad regime in Syria in the short term.
The Tánaiste was speaking after the EU agreed to lift its embargo against arming Syrian rebels, but the decision to supply arms is being left up to each nation individually.

Ministers did however agree to stick to safeguards against misuse and to respect EU rules on arms exports.
Speaking in Brussels this morning Eamon Gilmore says this is not the outcome he had hoped for, but there are no plans to arm the rebels for now:
