The Taoiseach says The Gathering isn’t just about getting people to come here and spend their money.
Enda Kenny’s come out in defence of the 2013 tourism initiative, following stinging criticism from actor Gabriel Byrne.

He dismissed it as a scam, and said that Irish-Americans were seen as tourists to be milked for a ‘few quid’.
But the Taoiseach says The Gathering’s a very credible proposal for Irish people and others who want to be associated with the country to do so through both flagship and smaller events.
