Members of SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union are due to stage two more days of strike action on Sunday and Monday – with a third day planned for later this month.

Irish Rail's management has hinted that some progress had been made at last night's talks.

Meanwhile, as the talks continue, one Clare TD has criticised the government for what he calls a lack of forward thinking.

Fianna Fáil's Timmy Dooley says earlier intervention could have seen this weekend's strikes averted.
