Taoiseach Says Preparations Needed Ahead Of Clare Flood Works

The Taoiseach insists proper preparations must be put in place before permanent flood prevention works can begin in South East Clare.

Last winter's flooding problems in Clonlara have been raised in the Dail by Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, who asked whether the local authority would be allocated funding to carry out interim flood prevention works.

Enda Kenny says an additional 5.14 billion euro was announced in the summer Economic Statement to deal with flood defences, as well as transport, housing, broadband, health, education.

The Taoiseach says the building of permanent defences will take time, but the government is committed to tackling Clare's flooding problems.
