Tens of Thousands Laud Clare’s Hurling Heroes

The All-Ireland winning Clare Senior and Under 21 Hurlers arrived home to a hero’s welcome in Ennis last night, cheered on by crowds of 30,000 people.

Thousands more turned out to greet the victorious teams and the Liam McCarthy Cup along the way with huge celebrations in Cratloe, Sixmilebridge, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Clarecastle.

The Fans cheered, sang and danced along with the winning teams, and expressed their hope that the boost experienced in the county throughout the past few weeks will continue.

Meanwhile, there were long delays for motorists heading home to North Clare after last night’s event, due to a crash on the Ennis-Ennistymon road.

The crash occurred shortly before ten o’clock around 5km outside of the county town, and saw three units of the fire service from Ennis dispatched to the scene.

Gardai say no one was injured, but the road was blocked for a time and there were 5km tailbacks in the area.
