Ministers will hold daily meetings – involving either the full cabinet – or the department of finance.

This morning the cabinet is expected to discuss the cuts to be made in the department of social protection.

Yesterday minister Joan Burton confirmed that a 10 euro cut in child benefit was being considered,
however she also said other alternatives are being examined – such as making employers pay for sick leave, and redundancy costs.

Ministers are also to examine paring back the lone parents allowance – its currently available for children under 14, and the minister is considering reducing the age threshold to 7 years.
