Gardai are continuing to investigate a fatal road traffic collision in county Meath earlier this morning.

A forensic examination is underway after a 22 year old man-who was the sole occupant lost his life when  his car hit a wall on the Duleek to Julienstown Road at 2.20am.

The road is closed this afternoon and Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

It brings to three the number of people who have lost their lives on the countries roads this bank holiday weekend. Two young men, aged 19 and 22, died following a crash in county Donegal in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two other men were also seriously injured in the accident on the Rathmullan to Portsalon Road.

Meanwhile in an attempt to prevent more deaths on our roads Clare Gardai are warning anyone tempted to drink or drug drive this weekend, that they will be caught.

Extra checkpoints are being set up nationwide over the Bank Holiday.

Last year five people lost their lives over the August weekend.
