Overcrowding at Ennis General Hospital is continuing to be a major problem for both staff and patients today.
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation this morning show there are currently five people stuck on trolleys and chairs awaiting a bed at the Ennis health facility.
Along with a surge in admittances – staff are also dealing with an outbreak of the Norovirus which has reduced bed capacity.
It comes a day after Mid West Nursing Representatives had called for the HSE’s major emergency plan to be implemented due to overcrowding at both Dooradoyle and Ennis – with several surgeries at Limerick cancelled yesterday.
Hospital manager Frank Keane is urging people to attend their local GP today if at all possible.
