Thousands of people are being forced to retire and wait a full year before they’re entitled to a state pension.
New figures show that five thousand people have been left in limbo when it comes to social welfare entitlements for those aged 65.
The Irish Independent reports that some older people are obliged to sign on for the dole and formally declare they are available for work until they qualify for the old age pension.

It comes as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has repeated his intention to increase the state pension- but isn’t sure if the money to do so will be available.
