A three-day truce between Israel and Hamas appears to be holding this morning.
The ceasefire came into force at 6 o'clock this morning Irish time – and was brokered by Egyptian mediators.

The new agreement requires both sides to send negotiators to Cairo for further talks.
Israel has withdrawn all ground forces from Gaza and has finished its operation to destroy tunnels built by Hamas militants.
At least 1,800 Palestinians and 67 Israelis have been killed in the four week conflict.
