Three male police officers travelling in the police car were not injured.

The Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland has been informed and will lead the investigation.

The Belfast Road has been closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

Separately, it's been confirmed by the Garda Ombudsman that a Garda car involved in a fatal collision in Co. Louth early this morning, was not in pursuit, but was on patrol.

A man in his 30s died after he was knocked down by the car on the main Carlingford to Dundalk road, just outside Bellurgan at about 20 past 1 this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
