Tony Mulcahy was selected over the weekend to join sitting T.D’s Pat Breen and Joe Carey in trying to win a seat in the forthcoming general election.
The Shannon councillor is hoping to benefit from the departure of the Defence minister Tony Kileen who announced his retirement from politics last week on health grounds.
His absence from the ballot paper means there will be at least one new TD elected in the county when voting does takes place later this year
