A number of tough budget measures come into effect from today – including the scrapping of the PRSI free allowance for workers earning more than 18-thousand euro a year.
This will cost the average worker around 5 euro per week in earnings.

Monthly child benefit payments will be reduced by 10 euro to 130 euro from today for the first and second child, and by 18 euro for the third.
Each prescription charge for Medical Card holders trebles from 50 cent to 1.50, while motor and vehicle registration taxes will also jump today.
