Ennis Town Council has rejected a proposal which would have given shoppers free parking in the lead-up to Christmas.
It had been proposed that the local authority would waive charges on Friday and Saturday afternoons for the remainder of the year, in a bid to entice more consumers into Clare’s County Town over the festive period.
However, councillors and the executive have both rejected the plan, saying that a charge levied on drivers is key in facilitating the turnover of parking spaces.
