Transport Minister Confirms Shannon Support Package To Be Unveiled Next Week

The Transport Minister has confirmed a new package of supports for both Shannon and Cork airports will be unveiled next week.

Minister Eamon Ryan’s commitment comes after Ryanair’s announcement it’s to close its bases at both Airports from November until March next year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Department of Transport has agreed to adopt the EU’s ‘traffic light’ system for international travel, with a decision on how to implement it expected after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

€10 million was provided to the airports in Budget 2021 – with half of this understood to be going to the Midwest airport to undergo capital works.

Minister Ryan would not outline what further supports government will give to Shannon and Cork, but has committed to providing clarity imminently.
