Transport Minister “Giving Careful Consideration” To Appointment Of New Shannon Group Chair

The Transport Minister is “giving careful consideration” to the process of appointing a new Chair to the Shannon Group board.

After the withdrawal of Sligo-businessman Aaron Forde from the role last week, following the discovery of inappropriate tweets, local Oireachtas members called on Minister Eamon Ryan to engage with them as part of a new process to find a suitable candidate.

This is one of three options that is being considered, with the possibility of selecting the second-ranked candidate, as recommended by the Public Appointments Service, still on the table.

A spokesperson for Minister Eamon Ryan has told Clare FM that he’s conscious this is an important and challenging time for Shannon Group, while his Department’s Secretary General Ken Spratt has told Deputy Cathal Crowe and the Oireachtas Transport Committee that the Minister is considering the next step.
