Cllr John Crowe along with other West of Ireland representatives held discusions with Paschal Donohoe on the issue yesterday.

They outline their concerns that any commitment from IAG that does not "explicitly guarantee" Aer Lingus' long term commitment to services between Shannon Airport and London Heathrow, as well as transatlantic services.

Councillor Crowe says it was a frank discussion.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Transport says the American Military is not using Shannon Airport for Rendition Flights.

Paschal Donohoe appeared before the Public, Oversight and Petitions Committe of The Oireachtas last evening as part of its investigation into US Military and CIA use of the facility and Irish airspace.

Minister Donohoe told the hearing that aircraft carrying munitions that travel through Irish Airspace generally do not land at Irish airports.

When questioned about the expressions that extraordinary rendition has happened on cargo flights that go through Shannon airport, the Minister said the matter had been raised directly with the American government.
