Paschal Carmody is charged with intent to defraud the parents of a teenage boy from County Wexford – Connor O’Sullivan  by obtaining money from them to treat their son with a photodynamic therapy on the alleged pretence that it would cure him.

These charges relate to dates in 2002.

The former Killaloe GP is also accused of deception regarding a similar treatment for Kilkenny man John Sheridan in 2001 – who’s also now deceased.

Appearing before Ennis Circuit Court today – Mr Carmody pleaded Not Guilty to the 9 charges which add up to over 16,000 euro in medical fees.

A Jury of six men and six women was sworn in and evidence in the case is to be heard before Judge Raymond Fullham later this afternoon.
