Slovakian Man To Be Tried In Circuit Court For Dangerous Driving Causing Death

 

The man charged with the dangerous driving causing the death of an Ennis GAA coach was yesterday sent forward for trial to the circuit court.

This follows the Book of Evidence being served on Rene Miko at Ennis District Court.

In the case, the 20 year old Slovakian is charged with the dangerous driving causing the death of GAA coach, Eugene McNamara (42) in Ennis on October 26th last.

Mr Miko of Place de Plouzane, Kilrush, Co Clare is also charged with unlawfully taking a 02 WW registered car on the same date, October 26th last in Ennis.

A younger brother of double All-Ireland winning Clare hurler, Stephen McNamara, Eugene McNamara (42) lost his life as a result of the incident when he was walking along a footpath just after 10pm on October 26th at the McDonalds roundabout in Ennis.

Solicitor for Mr Miko, John Casey said that his client was facing a serious charge and asked that a legal cert be extended to cover a senior counsel and junior counsel.

Inspector Tom Kennedy agreed, stating it was a very serious case.

Mr Miko is now due to appear at the next sittings of Ennis Circuit Court on October 31st.
