Tributes paid after death of Milo O’Shea

The Irish actor Milo O’Shea has passed away at the age of 86. He died in hospital in New York last night, following a short illness.

The Dublin star appeared in many movies, including  Romeo and Juliet and an adaptation of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses, in which he played Leopold Bloom.

He also starred in several US shows including Cheers, Frazier and The West Wing.

He’s survived by his wife, actress Kitty Sullivan, his two sons, Colm and Steven, and his three grandchildren.

Phil Taylor – a dancer – worked with Milo in Irish theatre in the 1950s – and remained friends with him throughout the years. She says he will be sorely missed.

The Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan has paid tribute to Milo O’Shea – describing him as a "giant" of both stage and screen.
