A representative of Teachers Union of Ireland members at IT Tralee says he believes academic staff there will welcome the decision of Flan Garvey to retire as it’s chairman.
26 members of staff there raised concerns that the former Mayor of Clare had plagiarised part of his thesis on the history of the parish of Inagh/Kilnamona, and though Mr. Garvey was subsequently cleared of wrongdoing, TUI members subsequently passed a motion calling for his resignation.

The former Fianna Fail representative has now decided to retire as chairman despite previously insisting that he would stay on until 2016.
TUI Assistant General Secretary Aidan Kenny feels this will be welcomed by staff.
