Two people have been killed in a fire at an apartment in Gort overnight.
The fire occurred at a flat in a complex called Tom O'Donnell Flats on Gort's Railway Road, and was first reported at about 2:50 this morning.
Fire services from Gort and Loughrea were called to the scene, and two bodies were recovered after the blaze was brought under control.
Gardaí say one is a 38-year-old man, while the other has not been officially identified but is beleived to be a woman in her sixties.
It's understood no one else was in the building at the time.
The bodies have been taken to University Hospital Galway where post mortems are due to be carried out later.
Gardaí have preserved and sealed-off the scene and are awaiting the arrival of technical experts as they begin to investigate the cause of the fire.
