Two people have appeared in court charged in connection with an incident in Dublin in which a Garda was seriously injured by a stolen car.
Dublin District Court heard the officer will require a number of operations after he was allegedly crushed against a patrol car on Saturday night.
26-year-old Patrick McDonagh has been remanded in custody – while 26-year-old Amy Gildea has been bailed until her next hearing.
Garda Lucy Wood told Dublin District Court that on Saturday night, she and two of her colleagues approached a red Citroen – believed to have been taken in a burglary in Clonuske Rise Estate in Balbriggan.
She told the court that 26-year-old Patrick McDonagh of Bath Road Balbriggan was in the drivers seat – and 26-year-old Amy Guildea of Dún Saithne Road was a passenger.
It’s alleged the vehicle reversed at speed dragging two of her colleagues along the road – pinning Garda Ciaran Murrihy against a patrol car.
Garda Wood said then drove at speed and again collided with a patrol car.
The car then left the scene and the court heard Mr McDonagh allegedly assaulted another Gardaí – elbowing him twice in the face – when he was arrested.
In total four Gardaí were injured – and the court heard Garda Murrihy will need a number of operations and will be out of work for a very long time.
Patrick McDonagh was charged with unauthorised taking of a vehicle and 2 counts of criminal damage – and will be remanded in custody at Clover Hill to appear in court again on Friday.
Amy Guildea was charged with being passenger in a stolen car was granted bail – to appear in court again in October.
