In an update to markets on it’s progress here in Clare, Enegi Oil has revealed that the end of November is a key date for it’s operations in the county.

It is by then that the UK-based firm must submit a report to the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, and depending on results of this, the Company says it may apply for an exploration licence.

Current permissions granted to Enegi do not allow for it to engage in fracking, which is a drilling technique used by oil exploration companies to extract natural gas from shale.

However, local campaigners have expressed fears that this could cause serious damage to the environment.
