A transatlantic flight has diverted to Shannon Airport, following reports of a disruptive passenger on board.
Austrian Airlines flight OS-87 was travelling from Vienna to New York when it made an unscheduled landing in Shannon.
The crew reported they had a disruptive passenger on board and that they wished to land – the plane touched down in Shannon at 1:16 this afternoon.
A 28-year old man, who is understood to hold a US passport, was arrested at the airport and taken to Shannon Garda station for questioning.
Gardaí consulted with the Director of Public Prosecutions who dertermined that no proceedings will be initiated here as the alleged incident occurred outside Irish airspace.
The man is now expected to be deported while the plane and its remaining passengers have resumed their journey to New York.
