US considers releasing photos of Osama Burial

 

The White House is considering whether to release photographs of Osama Bin Laden’s body and burial at sea – amid growing conspiracy theories.

The 54 year old Al Qaeda leader was killed during a US operation in Pakistan on Sunday night.

He was found in a compound in the town of Abbottabad – just 50 kilometres from the capital Islamabad – close to an elite military college.

Pressure is mounting on the Pakistani authorities to explain how the world’s most wanted man was able to live in the country undetected for years.

This morning Pakistan’s President has dismissed suggestions that his security forces didn’t do enough to track him down.

White House counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan’s also confirmed that President Obama and key staff watched the raid live at the White House.

The United States has closed its embassy and three consulates in Pakistan to the public until further notice – amid fears of reprisals.

The US State Department issued a global travel alert to all its citizens – following the death of bin Laden, saying there could be an outbreak of anti-American violence.

US President Barack Obama will visit Ground Zero in New York on Thursday – to meet the families of 9/11 victims killed – when Al-Qaeda flew hijacked airliners into the city’s twin towers.
