US Election Result Down To The Wire As Doonbeg Locals Maintain Trump Hope

It could be some time before the final result is known in the US Presidential election.

Counting of votes continues in a number of key battleground states, in a process that looks set to last for a number of days in some cases.

But even when it’s finished, the threat of legal action means the election could effectively be decided in the courts.

Here at home, there’s still hope among some locals in Doonbeg that Trump will win a second term.

Joe Biden has been chipping away at Donald Trump’s lead in the key swing state of Michigan as counting in the US presidential election continues.

If Biden can flip Michigan and hold onto his current leads, then he will win the election.

Seven other States are still up for grabs, with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin also a key focus at this stage.

The latest tallies show the former Vice President leads with 227 votes, while the President has 213.

In most of the remaining States, postal ballots which have still to be counted are expected to favour Joe Biden and could shift the scales, but even then President Trump has already said that his team will bring legal challenges against the process.

Earlier, the President has falsely claimed victory, despite millions of votes still to be counted.

He said the vote is a fraud on the American people.

Joe Biden says his party has legal teams standing by if Donald Trump goes to the Supreme Court over the US election result.

Hiss campaign manager says his claims of voter fraud are ‘outrageous, unprecedented, and incorrect’.

But, with the results still too close to call, these Democrats supporters in Delaware are still confident.

Some states will likely declare their winners later today, but in Pennsylvania and Nevada the wait willl continue, meaning it’s unclear whether there will be an overall result today

NUIG law lecturer Larry Donnelly says regardless of the outcome, the Democratic party is struggling to attract average Americans.
