The US government has offered its support for the development of a cargo hub at Shannon Airport.
Speaking to Clare Fm, the US Ambassador to Ireland, Dan Rooney said his government is committed to the Midwest Airport and has spoken with the Minister for Transport about promoting Shannon as a hub for US and European bound cargo.
It comes as concerns are raised on the future of the airport without the revenue earned from US troops en route to the Middle East.

The American Ambassador says that while troops will be gradually be withdrawn from Afghanistan and Iraq, there will be military movement through the Midwest airport for some time.
