Varadkar defends decision to Shannon Airport Board

The Transport Minister has defended his decision to reduce the board of Shannon Airport down to two members, saying the previous board had no power or control.

The board was reduced by seven members to include the Acting Airport Manager at Shannon and the Dublin Airport Authority’s Chief Financial Officer, and though the Minister is to appoint a third member within weeks, he’s told Clare FM it’s only an interim measure.

Leo Varadkar is visiting the Mid-West today and will speak to Limerick Chamber representatives about securing the future of Shannon, though he still has no specific deadline for a decision on the local airport other than some time in 2012.
