Nursing staff at University Hospital Limerick are reporting very high levels of overcrowding today.
This morning, there were 27 patients on trolleys in the hospital's emergency department, while 13 more are awaiting admission in other areas of the Dooradoyle facility.

The total number of 40 is the highest of any hospital in Ireland.
In a statement, the UL Hospitals Group says it regrets that any patient has had to face long waits but say that recent years have shown an increase in patients presenting at Emergency Departments during summer months.
