The Vice Chairperson of the Labour party and former Clare local election candidate says Pat Rabbitte should make way for a younger person at the cabinet table.
Joan Burton is expected to be formerly announced as the new leader of the party and new Tánaiste this afternoon – her focus will then turn to the cabinet reshuffle expected to be announced on Tuesday.
Seamus Ryan says Pat Rabbitte has served with distinction – but that is unfortunate Labour is in this current situation.
Meanwhile, as Labour prepares to elect it's new leader, a new Clare FM poll has indicated that party support here could be almost wiped out in the event of an early general election.
Following the recent local elections and the resignation of the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore, visitors to the Clare-dot-fm website were asked who they would vote for if a general election is held this year.
Just 2% indicated support for Labour, with a majority of those surveyed – 31% saying they'd vote for Fianna Fail.
Sinn Fein appear to be next in line in terms of local popularity with 25 per cent support in the Clare FM online poll, followed by Fine Gael on 21% and Independent's on 20.
