The jury at the trial of a man accused of murdering a teenager in a house in South east Clare two years ago will begin considering its verdict today.
21 year old John O’Loughlin, 21, of Cecil Street in Limerick denies murdering Roman Vysochan at the Carraig Midhe estate in Westbury on the night of 10 May 2008.
The 16 year old, Ukrainian native died after being stabbed in the chest.
John O’Loughlin pleaded guilty to assaulting a friend of Roman Vysochan’s, though he denies murdering the 16 year old, at his home in Carrig Midhe Westbury after he found the two teenagers in the company of two girls.
A sister of the accused man, Gillian O’Loughlin, told gardaí in a statement that she saw her brother stab Roman four or five times. but in her evidence in the witness box, she said she couldn’t remember that night because she had been smoking cannabis.
Closing arguments were heard from the prosecution and the defence in the case before the Central Criminal Court sitting in Limerick last evening, before Judge Paul Carney delivered his charge to the jury
He’ll instruct them to begin their deliberations this morning.
