Wait Nearly Over For Clare Leaving Certs

1,439 Clare students will be among the near 57,000 students nationwide who will receive their leaving certificate results today.

Here, 661 young women and 713 young men sat the state examinations in June, along with 65 more who did the Leaving Cert Applied.

They will be able to pick up their results from schools or online later this morning.

Nationally, figures from the State Examinations Commission show that the numbers sitting Honours maths is at its highest ever with more than 14,000 taking the paper this year.

10% of those students earned an A grade – a drop of 0.1% on 2013.

However, the failure rate in some maths and science subjects is also on the rise.

10% of students taking ordinary level physics achieved an E, F or NG grade – the figure for honours is 8%.

In chemistry, 15% of students failed the ordinary level paper with while 9% did not pass the higher level.

One student will open their results today to find they've earned 9 A1 grades, while 13 candidates around the country have scored 8 A1s this year.
