Plans to close Clare’s central waste management facility in Inagh are on hold once again, following calls for a second opinion on the cost of keeping it open.
Members of Clare County Council voted to defer the issue pending a more detailed meeting to discuss the 4 million euro figure quoted to develop a new phase at Ballyduffbeg, and to consider what closing the dump could mean for local bin charges.
That’s despite warning from the Clare County Manager that the money can’t be raised and there’s no option but to close the loss making landfill once the current phase is at full capacity.
