Water Crisis Nearing End

Clare County Council have issued the following statement this afternoon:

The water supply situation is continuing to improve and is near normal in most parts of County Clare, Clare County Council confirmed this afternoon. 

However, the local authority is requesting consumers to continue to conserve water use.  The Council’s leak detection and repair crews continue to work constantly (assisted by Contractors) throughout the County.

A spokesperson said today: “The Council appreciates the patience of the public in dealing with these shut offs.  Without the shut-offs supplies would be even more depleted.  Consumers can expect a delay in resumption of supply after water is restored at the time indicated while the mains are recharging for several hours.  Furthermore, consumers on the periphery of schemes or on high ground can expect even greater delays in restoration of normal supply and pressure.  In this regard all consumers are again requested to use water conservatively to ensure greater supply to all.”

In order to conserve the supply the Council is taking the following actions

Water will be cut off until further notice at the following locations and at the time specified:

–       Shannon,  Sixmilebridge, from 8.00pm to 7.00am

–       O’Briensbridge, Clonlara, Broadford, Shannon Banks, Westbury, Parteen, Ardnacrusha, Coolisteigue from 8.00pm to 8.00am

–       Corofin, Ruan from 8.00pm to 8.00am.

A standpipe will continue to operate at Cratloe: Wood Cross from 1.00pm to 3.00pm each day until further notice

Tankers will supply water to the following locations each day until further notice at the time specified:

–       Lahinch: The Promenade, 2.00pm to 4.00pm

–       Ennistymon: County Council offices, 2.00pm to 4.00pm

–       Cratloe  Woodbrook, 1.00pm to 3.00pm; Portdrine, 10.00am to 11.00am

–       Quin: Quin Village, 10.00am to 12.00 noon

–       Crusheen: Village Centre, 4.00pm to 6.00pm

Clare County Council’s Emergency number (should only be used to report major bursts and leaks in public areas) is 087-4169496 which operates from 5.00pm each evening to 9.30am the next morning. This number is to facilitate emergencies only such as leaks in the public areas. From 9.30am to 5.00pm please contact the Council’s main office number at 065-6821616.
