Water quality in Kildysart still not fit for consumption

The water quality in Kildysart is said to be improving, but it's still not fit for drinking.

Irish Water say the restrictions on the local supply, which also affects Coolmeen and Cranny, will remain in place until next Tuesday at least.

Residents in the Kidysart area have been relying on water tankers since July 29th, after they were told the local supply wasn't suitable for drinking due to discolouration caused by increased Manganese levels.

Though they're now reporting improvements, Clare County Council and Irish Water still haven't been given the all clear by the HSE, so the warning remains in place.

The Local Authority says a water quality testing programme will be carried out next week, and that a "satisfactory sequence of test results" will be required before existing restrictions can be lifted.

In the meantime, drinking water tankers are being deployed daily outside Kildysart Secondary School and the Hilltop Bar in Coolmeen up until Tuesday next, August 12th, at least.
