The Minister for the Environment is due in Ennis today to officially open the new Ennis Water Treatment Plant.
The nine million Euro water treatment facility located in Drumcliffe has been fully operational since late last year, and is now serving 30,000 residents in the Ennis, Clarecastle, Barefield and surrounding areas.
It’s hoped the new state of the art facility will prevent any further contamination of the local water supply following numerous boil notices over the years, and Minister John Gormley has been asked to bear in mind the money spent on bottled water in the town during this time.
But Deputy Mayor of Clare Councillor Tommy Brennan believes the introduction of water rates will be the same for Ennis as the rest of the country
