Waterways Island is voicing its support for Clare County Council's plans to purchase lands on Holy Island.
The island, known as the Jewel on the Lough, is partially in the ownership of the Office of Public Works and a private party.

However the local authority here expects to complete the purchase before the year is out.
Spokesperson for Waterways Ireland Dawn Livingstone says if successful it will help in the creation of a heritage trail on the river shannon.
