Proposals to develop a wave energy project off the West Clare Coast have received another boost.
ESB International which is behind the Westwave initiative has been awarded a grant of almost a quarter of a million euro by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
It comes just weeks after the government granted the company foreshore licences to explore the possiblity of developing wave energy off Killard Point in Doonbeg and at another site in Mayo.
The 238 thousand euro grant is awarded under SEAI’s Ocean Energy Prototype Research and Development Programme which focuses on the development and deployment of ocean energy devices and systems, with an emphasis on industry-led projects.
