Welcome For €2.5m Announced For Local Authority Housing In South East Clare

The announcement of almost 2.5 million euro in funding towards local authority housing in South East Clare has been given a broad welcome.

10 new housing units will be constructed in the village of Feakle in an effort to help ease the social housing list.

It follows further announcements for Shannon and Quilty last year.

This latest announcement comes under the Government's 5.3 billion euro Rebuilding Ireland plan which aims to tackle the country's housing shortage.

A provisional budget of €2,452,805 has been allocated towards the construction of 10 local authority houses in the village of Feakle on lands purchased some time ago for 1.4 million euro.

It follows the announcement of a further 10 new housing units in Sea View Park, Quilty and 15 units at Tullyglass, Shannon last year.

Minister of State Pat Breen is now urging Clare County Council to push ahead with plans for the construction of local authority housing, saying the money is there for the taking:

South East Clare Councillor Pat Hayes is welcoming the fact that the project has finally come to fruition, with land purchased for the homes lying idle for some time.

Over three thousand people remain on the housing list in Clare and Councilor Hayes believes its important to work with the local community to ensure the right mix of people are housed there.
