Six people including a ten year old have been honoured by Irish Water Safety for their action in 3 near- death incidents at beaches in West Clare.
Mark Flynn and Norman Cleary rescued four swimmers who got caught in a rip current at Spanish Point last July while 15 year old Colm Quish from Limerick also came to the aid of a swimmer in difficulty at Lahinch in June.

A certificate of courage was also awarded to 10 year old Emily Luff from Quilty for keeping her younger sister afloat in a rip current at Spanish Point last year.
Two others who came to their rescue Thomas Thompson and Peter Bradbury were also honoured.
