While the Gathering has been urging Irish people all over the world to remember their roots, one West Clare community has today honored its deceased members who were never able to make their final trip home.
The Cooraclare/Cree Historical Society has unveiled a memorial to people who emigrated from the parish, and were buried in their adopted homes.
The idea for the project was conceived when a member of the Society was attending a relative’s funeral in England, and realised that many others lacked a place where they could remember their loved ones.
