West Clare Family Call For Better Treatment From The Banks

The wife of a West Clare businessman who used a shotgun to confront a security guard from his former premises in Cree has spoken out about the personal stress of losing control of their family business due to financial difficulties.

Pat Barrington of Eco Plastics Limited near Kilrush was arrested by gardai after the incident in which he was challenged by the security man after removing machinery from his farm plastic recycling business days after a receiver was appointed to the company.

Mr Barrington encountered problems in a deal to buy recycling equipment worth 860,000 euro from Germany and subsequently fell into 50,000 euro worth of arrears in a 350,000 euro mortage with ACC bank.
