The long term future of the West County Hotel- formerly owned by the Lynch Group was thrown into doubt two years ago when it went into receivership.

It went on the market for an asking price of around 2.5 million and there was speculation in recent weeks that it had been linked to retail giant Tesco.

However yesterday staff were called into a meeting with management and informed that the hotel had been sold to the Waterford based Treacy Hotel Group-  The family run business already operates hotels in Waterford City and Enniscorthy.

Clare FM understands that contracts for the deal were signed last Friday but the new owners are not expected to take over the hotel until the beginning of March.
