The Wexford TD Mick Wallace is facing time in prison for non payment of a court fine.

Deputy Wallace was arrested in Dublin this morning and has arrived at Limerick Prison within the last few minutes.

Last April Mick Wallace was fined 2,000 euro at Ennis District Court for breaching security at Shannon Airport in 2014.

The Wexford TD vowed not to pay the fine and hasn't done so.

It's understood that last month a warrant for his arrest for non-payment of the fine was issued.

This morning at 11:30 – and just after he'd asked questions of the Education Minister – he was arrested by appointment at Clontarf Garda station in North Dublin and is being transported to Limerick.

The 60-year-old's expected at Limerick Prison this afternoon to begin serving a 30 day jail term in lieu of the fine.

United Left TD Clare Daly was also fined 2,000 euro at the same court appearance earlier this year – she too vowed not to pay it.
