White: ‘No Fracking In Clare In Near Future’

The Minister for Communications, Energy and and Natural Resources says there is no chance of fracking in Clare in the near future.

Alex White, who took up the position in this summer's cabinet reshuffle, has re-iterated the stance of his predecessor Pat Rabbitte in saying that the government will make no decision on whether to ban or allow the controversial practice until after an EPA report.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, extracts natural gas from shale and a UK firm has carried out explorations in much of the Loop Head peninsula to determine its suitability.

It's feared that the environment would be damaged if fracking was to proceed, but Minister White has told Clare FM that won't happen in the near future.
