Wifi Plans for Clare

Clare County Council says it’s unlikely that Ennis could follow the lead of Dublin and Killarney in offering free wi-fi to visitors and residents walking its streets.

It follows a call from Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey to install wireless internet hotspots at the town’s busiest spots, building on its past as an information age town.

Clare County Manager Tom Coughlan says it’s doubtful that there would be enough footfall for a private company to install such a scheme in Ennis, or in Shannon.

However, there is a boost for users of the town’s public buildings, as Mr. Coughlan says it is the local authority’s intention to install WiFi hot spots in areas including the Library, the Museum and Glór.
