Gardai are appealing for witnesses to what they’re calling a tragic accident, after five members of one family died in Buncrana last night.
A man and his two boys, their grandmother and her daughter lost their lives when their car went into the water.
Those who died were Sean McGrotty, his sons Mark and Evan, his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels and her daughter Jodie Lee Daniels.
An Audi with 6 people inside is believed to have slipped on some algae on Buncrana pier, where it went into the water.
A man and woman, a girl and two boys couldn’t get out of the car in time.
But a heroic passerby managed to save a four month old baby girl.
The mother of the baby and two boys was elsewhere at the time of the accident.
Postmortems are beign carried out on the five this afternoon.
