Construction work on a new 50 bed ward block for Ennis General Hospital is underway.
Long awaited redevelopment work on Clare’s County Hospital has begun this week with the project due for completion by the end of next year, and facilities are set to be further enhanced by construction of a new endoscopy unit at the same site.
The 15 million euro development followed original plans for a 40 million euro upgrade at Ennis General which never came to pass after the reconfiguration of hospital services including the scaling back of A and E facilities.
But Clare Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley says work on the new ward block will guarantee the future of local hospital services.
