The Deputy Mayor James Breen has called for  for improved Garda resources on the back of this new reasearch.

Do you feel safe in Ennis? – That was the question posed to over 400 people as part of a new study on the town.

Over 40 per cent of people say they've felt unsafe in Ennis at some point over the last 12 months.

The research conducted through the University of Limerick and Clare County Council.

Three groups were surveyed as part of the work, the general population, students at two secondary schools and users of Clare Youth services.

Dr Chris McInerney headed up the research,he says the concerns raised by young men in particular are of concern.

The study has also found that only 20 per cent were the victims of a recent crime.

That stat is something Detective Inspector John Galvin is welcoming and he says the force will now sit down and review the reports findings in the hoes of doing what they can to improve the situation.

However Deputy Mayor of Ennis James Breen says more Gardaí are needed – he's calling on residents to report any instance where they feel unsafe to Gardaí.
